I haven’t had a chance to write about this summer. It’s gone by so fast. The hockey camp I went to was over-the-top – crazy, wild, scary, hard, amazing …. I met some great guys – and maybe some not so great. I learned what it means to take your game to the next level too. I always thought I played every shift full out; and now I realize that wasn’t really true. At the camp, with so many awesome players, I had to go hard every shift or the puck would end up in my net and I’d look like a total doofus. Like my coach said, you can skate hard and do nothing, or play smart and dominate a game. It all starts with focus, though. I could’ve done without Jake being at camp – to state the obvious. I really gotta figure out how to make him disappear. He almost ruined everything. Funny how things turned out.

The weather has been so awesome lately I’ve been on the board nearly every day. On weekends, the Hill is packed and you gotta wait for half-an-hour for a run. My longboard sucks so bad, though. I’m saving money as fast as I can to buy another one. Scott just got the sweetest board ever – he calls it Black Beauty because the deck is this incredibly glossy black. He let me ride it once and I couldn’t believe how smooth it rode, and all you need to do is put a little pressure and lean a bit and it turns perfectly. Even Zachary couldn’t beat Scott using my board against Black Beauty. I understand that my mom can’t buy me the board now because money is a bit tight for her, and my grandparents are always getting us stuff and this would be too much. I’m okay with it, although it is a bit embarrassing riding such a beat up board. Get over it, Joyce, I tell myself. And I am – only it sure will be cool to get that new board!

The lineup was huge, but it was worth it cause the cones are massive. I didn’t know that Jonathon had invited Julia and her friends, and we had to sit near the front to get a row of 9. Rumour has it Scott’s got his eye on Rebecca. He’s playing it cool and not talking, which I thought was impossible for him. As usual, I feel everyone’s looking at me when I’m around Julia. With such a big group we didn’t talk much. After we went to Dutch Dreams for ice cream. The lineup was huge, but it was worth it cause the cones are massive. I had a double scoop, and I swear it was bigger than my head.
